Jonathan Daniels Pilgrimage 2011
There was standing room only in the Lowndes County Courthouse Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, for a service of remembrance, repentance & reconciliation for the church's part in the tragedy of slavery and racism. The service was part of this year's Jonathan Daniels Pilgrimage honoring the slain civil rights advocate and Episcopal seminarian and others martyred during the struggle for civil rights in Alabama. |

The Rev. Gregory O. Brewer, rector of Calvary-St. George’s Church in New York City, was elected Nov. 19 as the fourth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida, pending the required consents from a majority of bishops with jurisdiction and standing committees of the Episcopal Church.
Fr. Brewer was elected on the 4th ballot out of a field of seven nominees. He received 141 votes of 241 cast in the lay order and 110 of 192 cast in the clergy order. An election on that ballot required 125 in the lay order and 95 in the clergy order.
The election was held during the diocese's special convention at Trinity Preparatory School.

The Rt. Rev. Bertram Herlong, the 10th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee, died Oct. 21. He was 77.
Current Tennessee Bishop John Bauerschmidt said that day in an e-mail that the death of his immediate predecessor came "after a very swift decline while under treatment for leukemia." Herlong's wife, Vickie, and daughter, Angela, were with him at the end, Bauerschmidt said.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 25 at St. George's Episcopal Church in Nashville, with the burial at St. John's Cemetery, in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee.
Herlong was elected as 10th bishop of Tennessee on Jan. 10, 1993, and consecrated on June 26. |
